Emotional Arguments
Just several examples
- I love you, and that is why I am hurting you
- PANIC!!!!
- Look at that crying child in this wartime picture and the look in their eyes. Clearly, the opposing army is evil.
- Women anywhere outside of the kitchen just doesn't feel right. It's wrong.
- I just know that Donald Trump is going to save us all and I don't need proof or for you to believe me
- *tears* (Please pretend that you agree with me so I can get my way) *tears*
- It's all your fault that anything in your life has gone wrong, because whatever is in your life, you have attracted (this is the plot of the book called The Secret)
- If you would only join my (insert cult name here), your life would be so much better
- I don't understand what you're saying, and it's too complicated. The simpler solution is always better and correct.
- Logic and critical thinking are only for boring automatons and that's no way to live. Who needs that when you have heart?
To poke holes in any of these arguments, either focus on the simple question "Where is the evidence for your statement?" or just ignore them
If you find yourself arguing with any statement that cannot be proven with evidence, you are probably using an emotional argument. Try to train yourself to avoid using them and your life will probably go better.
