Upcycling Liquids and Water Conservation
Conserving liquids and water in the first place
- In the garden? Mulch! You can sometimes get this from a tree trimming service, or get bagged cedar mulch since it's less likely to harbor molds and fungus than other bagged mulch. Non-dyed is my preferred choice. You can also use organic (or nonorganic) straw as mulch, but it tends to blow around and usually needs to be weighed down with burlap sacks and rocks. Same deal with burlap sacks and rocks if you choose to use pine needles or leaves as mulch.
Fishtank water from freshwater tank
- Dump on outdoor plants. This contains natural fertilizer.
Stale drinks
- Pour right on the ground outside, especially if you’d otherwise pour them down the sink. If you have large amounts of drinks to toss, pour all that in a five-gallon bucket or large bowl and dump that. Helps add nutrients (organic fertilizer, of a sort) and water to the soil. But don’t pour soda, it contains phosphoric acid and could acidify the soil. Also, anything alcoholic could kill vegetation
