Witch Culture
Just some things I noticed. Take 'em with a grain of salt. Obviously they won't apply to everybody
Witch Culture is:
- Wearing every piece of jewelry you own all at once, all the time, even when you're asleep
- Being slightly less misunderstood by other Witches but still having everyone be confused about everyone's practice, all the time
- Adoring kitty
- Cringing when you hear about anyone learning Witchcraft from TikTok
- Wanting to signal to other Pagans that you're not a fundie but having no idea how to do it in a way that isn't awkward
- Having a favorite author that a lot of other people hate, and being wary of saying who you obsessively collect the books of
- Being so weird you don't even understand yourself, let alone your Craft, but having a bunch of strangers assume you have it all together
- Repurposed glass jars everywhere
- Hearing about cottagecore and feeling weirded out, like "they're discovering it now?!!!"
- Becoming more and more bewildered and amazed the more you progress in the Craft, then still feeling like an amateur when baby Witches ask you for advice
- Running out of candles. AGAIN.
- At least one wild story about how you nearly burned down your house
- Having no idea what you're doing or how you're doing it, despite doing it
- Knowing you don't know much
- Finally figuring out where your astrological sign's problems apply to your personality, and grumbling about it
- Strange coincidences piling up until you just accept them as a part of everyday life
- Wearing a pentacle even if you don't particularly like pentacles just so people know where you stand
- 20 books a month
- Having a crystal collection somehow even if you never bought any of them
- Ditto a stuffed animal collection
- Finding the perfect book or teacher years later for a serious problem you had which you solved the hard way, and being butthurt about it
- Either loving camping and Gaia so much that you want to eat, sleep, and live outside without even a tent for the rest of your life, or being seriously inconvenienced by the great outdoors, not caring about it at all, and disliking it immensely, and nothing in between (I kid, I kid. Mostly.)
- Knowing that doing Witchcraft IS accomplishing something the hard way
- Enya, Clannad, and Jethro Tull
- Extreme protectiveness of children and pets, heck, even gardens
- Either being a Master Chef of Chefness or the Master of Kitchen Disaster and absolutely nothing in between
- Supporting Black Lives Matter, human rights, and social causes
- The utility broom, saucepan, wooden spoon, and cleaning supplies might be charmed, maybe
- Screaming obscenities at spirits that are pissing you off until they go away
- Having a very healthy appreciation (obsession?) of dirt
- Nothing is ever boring, which is either good or bad depending on circumstances
- Hoping you don't piss off the land wights or the Gods by being an asshole
- Scrabbling and scrambling and slaving away to fix the mother of all screw-ups, and most of the time it's not even yours
- Somehow managing to have more pets than you originally thought you could manage, and they are now the monarchy in your home
- Wearing this exact face when watching stuff like Bewitched and Charmed
