Gardening and Farming
- VegTrug Haven't had a chance to garden due to limited mobility and/or time or space constraints? Take a look at this thing. They also have stuff for maximizing patio space such as this plant stand. Also, they sell arches, benches too.
- Planting Justice Another organization/business much like Dave's Killer Bread in that it employs a lot of people straight out of prison. Therefore, I'd be willing to bet its products are just as good. Will be trying these ASAP, as this plant nursery sells a lot of different products.
- Shroom Supply Coconut Coir Bricks Coir bricks intended for growing mushrooms. So if you need more dirt, fast, and have both organic and liquid fertilizer at the ready so the plants don't starve in this bulky but nutrition-less growing medium, this can extend whatever potting soil or dirt supply you've got. Also, coconut coir is a peat substitute but not bad for the environment. And it can be used as mulch.
- Angel Gardens The only organic rose plant source in the US that I know of. These are own-root roses that come shipped in pots. Decent price. Will let you know if they grow well.
- Neptune's Harvest Because apparently diluted fish emulsion has to be added to the watering liquid for potted plants once a week during the warm season. Just learned that. Also, their tomato vegetable liquid fertilizer is great for overall liquid organic fertilizer.
- Espoma I use this company for granular organic fertilizer, because I garden organically in potted containers and damn, those plants get hungry. And yeah I use it in tandem with other stuff: fish meal, Neptune's Harvest tomato vegetable liquid fertilizer. Hoping to try adding frass and also fish (and maybe kelp) emulsion this year.
- Frass from Entomo Farms Cricket droppings. A little like rabbit pellets steeped in water in that it's an organic fertilizer that won't burn plants.
- Bona Fide Organics A website listing other websites that sell organic trees, shrubs, roots, seeds, and so on. Because these are surprisingly hard to find
- Do Your Own Pest control shop selling cheap Promix potting soil. Why? I don't know.
- Dr. Earth Fertilizers, potting soils, and similar products. Their fish meal is pretty good. I use that and sometimes also azomite, in a mixture with Neptune's Harvest liquid vegetable fertilizer I get off eBay, in order to fertilize my potted plants.
- Coast of Maine Various garden soil nourishing products. Haven't tried any yet.
- Native Seeds Native American seed organization selling seeds mostly adapted for areas with drought. They are excellent quality.
- Seedman A huge variety of very affordable GMO-free seeds with good germination
- Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds Seeds that are hard to find anywhere else. Never bought any myself because they're pretty expensive, but this company reimbursed people whose gardens were decimated by a hurricane (can't remember which) a few years ago with free seeds, so obviously they really care about what they're doing
- Richters They sell very rare herb seeds and herb plant packs. Shipping is so expensive I could never afford it. Don't know if the germination or survival rate is good.
- Renee's Garden Decent quality herb seeds
- The Banana Tree Have never bought these seeds because I do not have a massive 2-story-tall greenhouse. Also did not live in Texas at the time. If you do, or if you live in Florida or somewhere like that, you might take a look at this.
Arbor Day Shop Membership is $10/year. They send you 10 trees with your membership unless you don't want them. With that membership comes many promotions for stuff to add to your garden, free address labels and stickers, and a year-round discount on the trees from their nursery. High quality stuff; the trees and shrubs grow well. They also sell fruit trees. Much to my chagrin everything I've bought from Arbor Day in the past few years has either disappeared in transit or died. They were assholes about it too and essentially told me to go fuck myself. I now will try the potted trees and shrubs bought at Home Depot and Walmart.
